Grime if I may consult wikipedia is music typified by complex 2-step breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute and constructed from “different” sounds.[1] Stylistically, grime takes from many genres including UK Garage, dancehall and hip hop.[2] The lyrics and music combine futuristic electronic elements and dark, guttural bass lines.
Once again I’m going to have to thank iTunes for opening me up to this genre of music. I was checking out Dizzee Racal and that led me to other similar artists in the grime scene. I’ve been loving exploring this genre lately, thus far I’ve discovered artists such as Roll Deep, Kano, Wiley, Devlin, Ghetto, and others. It’s hip hop influence drew me in, but its own personal tweaks and differences got me hooked. As far as I can tell Grime really hasn’t had gained much popularity in the states other than maybe Lady Sovereign. And to be honest although I like Lady Sovereign, a lot of these guys are much better.
Definitely a genre worth exploring if you have any interest in hip hop, techno, dancehall or things along those lines. This is a song by Plan B of The Adulthood Soundtrack. It has a lot of good Grime music on it.
