My dad just gave my boyfriend and I his old guitar. It’s really interesting for me to notice the different ways we choose to learn to play.
For me I have to learn the correct finger positioning, what each note looks like and how to play it properly. It’s fairly painstaking, as I have very poor dexterity. I enjoy it, but the idea of playing an entire song is daunting, and seems to me as though I’ll never be able to. I enjoy tuning it, maybe it’s because we have the electronic tuner. I don’t have to worry about the fact that I’m tone deaf.
On the other hand I don’t know that I’ve seen him look at a book or the internet once. He’s been plucking away at the strings just making sounds he enjoys. For the most part he sounds really good too. I find it fascinating how two people can pick up the same instrument and have such a staggeringly different experience with it.
It’s a good thing I like to tune the guitar because the way he picks and strums at it. It’s always out of tune by the time he’s done.

Can we see a picture of the guitar?
